(UWIRE) COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- Texas A&M University senior quarterback Stephen McGee will lead the Aggie offense for the final time this fall, with the program looking for its first Big 12 Conference title in 10 years.
Sophomore quarterback Jerrod Johnson cements himself as the heir apparent to McGee's job beginning with the 2009 season, the relationship between the two of them is everything that Aggie fans should hope for it to be.
"We have a great relationship, all the quarterbacks do," McGee said. "We're all good teammates and we all coach each other in the new offense and that kind of stuff. He's [Johnson] very talented, tall, has a good arm, and he's athletic. He's doing a great job of picking up everything and learning the offense and that kind of stuff."
McGee said that he doesn't view himself as a teacher to Johnson, but rather as a friend who can help him when needed.
"I don't think I really teach him but if he has questions, he'll come up and ask me," McGee said.
Friendly competition does exist between the two teammates. The rivalry is a healthy one, however, one that exists to help the team achieve further success.
"There's competitiveness between everybody," McGee said. "That's something we all want to do to make the team better."
As far as the transition the offense, and the entire team for that matter, is making with the arrival of head coach Mike Sherman, McGee says that the time has been good and beneficial for the team as a whole.
"It's been great," McGee said. "He [Sherman] is doing a great job of trying to get everybody to buy into what he wants to do here. There's a lot of offensive stuff. He's doing a great job. He's a great football coach and he's all business. He's getting everybody to do their job."
