OT Orlando Pace's health could be the most important aspect of training camp for the Rams. Pace has played just nine games the last two years, and he was lost for the season in 2007 in the first half of the season opener because of a torn labrum. The year before he was hampered early in the season by injuries and then missed the final eight games with a torn triceps. He will be 33 in November. During the offseason, he participated on a limited basis, and he intends to be ready for contact when training camp opens July 24. Still, it is likely the Rams will be careful with him, possibly having him practice once on days when two practices are scheduled. The depth behind Pace is questionable. Alex Barron moved to left tackle last season after Pace was injured, but right tackle was a consistent problem area. The backup tackles currently on the roster are Brandon Gorin, Adam Goldberg and rookie John Greco. 07/17/2008

Rams coach Scott Linehan said Tuesday the team would be conservative with Pace, who tore the labrum and rotator cuff in his right shoulder in the second quarter of the 2007 season-opener against Carolina. Pace missed the remainder of the season, and his injury was among several that left the offensive line in shambles, a big reason for the Rams' dismal 3-13 record.
