LB Thomas signs with Chiefs: The Chiefs and seven-time Pro Bowl linebacker Zach Thomas have agreed to a one-year, $2 million deal. Thomas, 36, started 14 of 16 games for the Dallas Cowboys in 2008 during his 13th NFL season, recording 94 tackles, 65 of which came solo.

Fantasy Analysis

Thomas had a hard time adjusting to the Cowboys' 3-4 defense and now finds himself in the Chiefs' version of it. He should still man the inside, but he's not expected to total the 150 hits or so we've come to expect from him. He's no better than a reserve Fantasy LB worth a late-round pick in drafts this summer.

LB Zach Thomas gives the Chiefs a veteran presence in the middle of whatever defensive scheme they choose to run. Thomas has played in both the 4-3 and the 3-4 over his career with Miami and Dallas. Thomas will be 36 in September, the same age as veteran LB Donnie Edwards, who was released. But Thomas played 15 games last year, while Edwards battled injuries and was on the field for only seven games in the '08 season. 41/6/2009
