TE Derek Schouman enters camp No. 2 on the depth chart behind starter Robert Royal. With Royal missing offseason workouts after minor knee surgery, Schouman took advantage of repetitions with the first unit and enters camp brimming with the confidence. He was a seventh-round pick out of Boise State in 2007 and appeared in three games with one start. "Derek is a fine football player and when we drafted him a year ago, we had some inside information on him with Sean Kugler coming onto our staff," coach Dick Jauron said of his offensive line coach who coached at Boise one year. "And what Sean told us and what we saw on film is what we're seeing now. The guy knows how to play the game, he has a feel for the game, and he is a very hard worker and determined to succeed." Schouman isn't likely to overtake the No. 1 job from Royal. But it won't surprise anyone to see him hold off free agent Courtney Anderson, Tim Massaquoi and rookie Derek Fine for the backup spot. 07/17/2008
