Falcons LB Michael Boley was arrested and charged with battery Saturday. The 25-year-old linebacker, a rising star in the NFL and one of the team's more popular players, was released on $1,200 bond. Details of the arrest were not available. The 2005 fifth-round draft pick has been tabbed as one of the building blocks for a franchise. Though he signed a one-year contract tender for just more than $2 million last month, Boley and the Falcons were negotiating a long-term contract extension. The third-year outside linebacker was among the team's leading tacklers (110, four forced fumbles, two interceptions) last season and is arguably its best player. (Updated 05/05/2008).

Fantasy Analysis
Keep an eye on what develops with Boley this offseason and if a suspension results. He is a No. 2 LB in IDP leagues, but this problem could hinder his play. (Updated 05/05/2008).
LB Michael Boley will earn just more than $2 million next season after signing a tender as a restricted free agent, but his future beyond that one-year agreement might be in doubt after misdemeanor domestic battery charges. The sides were still in negotiations leading up to Boley's arrest. It is unknown if the legal development stymied those conversations or at least changed negotiating leverage. Boley had been held as a beacon of public service and one of high character by the franchise. Coaches routinely mentioned Boley's intelligence and responsibility when bragging about his on-field prowess and productivity. Boley was active in the community and did commercials and endorsements for autism research, something that he was connected with because his son is autistic. Whether this incident diminishes his reputation and role as a team spokesman in the community also could be determined by the outcome of his case. 05/08/2008
Boley was charged with battery after his wife accused him of becoming "physical" after an argument. Boley, 25, was arrested Saturday at his Dacula home and released on $1,200 bond for the misdemeanor. 05/05/2008
Advice
The Gwinnett County Police Department issued a release but not a full report Monday, saying officers were called to the home following a verbal argument between Boley and his wife, Chantelle. Boley set career highs with three sacks, two interceptions, three forced fumbles and seven pass breakups last year. Entering his fourth season with the Falcons, he was ranked second on the team with 125 tackles in 2007.
