Rodgers responds to Favre rumors: On a conference call with the media about a golf tournament he was going to partake in, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports that Packers QB Aaron Rodgers was mum on a possible return to the NFL by Brett Favre. "I'm not really going to speculate about any of the rumors out there," he said. "I've been up in the mountains hanging out with my family, so I am pretty much immune to it." Rodgers added that he hasn't spoken to Favre recently. (Updated 07/09/2008).

Fantasy Analysis
We expected Rodgers to enter training camp as the Packers' starter until news broke out recently that Favre wanted to come back and play for Green Bay. The Packers seemingly have moved on and have given the keys to the offense to Rodgers, who has waited patiently behind Favre for three seasons and probably isn't interested in waiting for a fourth. Nevertheless, Favre's return would all but assure the Packers of being competitive in 2008, while Rodgers would be more of a question mark. Favre's return would impact all prominent skill-position Packers as well as the QB talent pool Fantasy owners would be picking from. If you're in a deep draft in the immediate future, taking Favre with a late-round pick is a low-risk, high-reward proposition. And if Favre did come back, he'd be a No. 1 QB worth a selection between Rounds 5 and 7 while Rodgers, who is currently a middle- to late-round pick as a No. 2 QB, would be undraftable for the fourth straight year. We'll bring you the latest when we get it. (Updated 07/09/2008).
QB Aaron Rodgers' much-anticipated debut in a Monday night season opener against Minnesota on Sept. 8 isn't a given. Rodgers has endured a July he would just as soon forget, what with all the speculation of a comeback by predecessor Brett Favre and whether an apparent rift between Favre and team management can be resolved to pave his return. For Rodgers' sake, not having so little the specter of Favre hanging over the practice field on the first day of training camp July 28 will be his only salvation. Rodgers was anointed the starter after Favre retired in March and devoted three months of offseason work to running an offense tailored to him and building chemistry with teammates. As long as Favre isn't in the picture, Rodgers will be under the gun to get past the playing inexperience and injury history that have defined his pro career thus far. 07/17/2008
