Martz: Gore will be core of offense: The Sacramento Bee reports that 49ers offensive coordinator Mike Martz is not only impressed with RB Frank Gore's abilities, but also his mind. Martz had called Gore a "one-time guy," meaning that when he tells Gore anything about his offense, he absorbs it and learns it. Martz says that Gore will be the core of his offense in 2008. "There are things that we'll play to that are really strengths of his," Martz said. "He's got that speed and explosiveness. He does it all. He's a physical guy that you can hammer, or you can use him as a perimeter guy." (Updated 06/30/2008).

Fantasy Analysis
Martz also plans on using backup RBs DeShaun Foster and Michael Robinson, including a package with Gore and Robinson, but it's clear that Gore will be the engine of the 49ers offense. Even though Gore's 2007 season was tough to swallow, he's still going to be a first-round pick in drafts this summer. Martz has ignored his running game in the recent past, but it's been because his passing game was too strong to not utilize. That won't be the case in pass-inept San Francisco. Gore should be used early and often for the 49ers, making him well worth a middle-to-late first-round pick in Fantasy drafts this summer. (Updated 06/30/2008).
