Slimmer Deuce running at Saints camp: Coming off of his second reconstructive knee in three offseasons, which included microfracture surgery, Saints RB Deuce McAllister is working with the offense at training camp and came to Jackson, Miss., eight pounds lighter than his previous playing weight. Head coach Sean Payton said he will be cautious with McAllister, sitting him out for some sessions while the Saints are practicing twice a day, but understands that McAllister wants to get back to running the football. "There's a sense of urgency with Deuce and he understands that it's tough as a running back to recover from a second injury like he's having to, but if it's possible to happen, he's the type of guy to do it," Payton said. Fantasy Analysis
McAllister will enter 2008 as the lead running back for the Saints, but he has a lot to prove to Fantasy owners after getting hurt last year. Consider McAllister a low-end No. 3 Fantasy option, expected to get close to 1,000 total yards, with the potential for a lot of touchdowns if he can play often and work at the goal line like he did in 2006. RB Deuce McAllister, just five months shy of his 30th birthday, is a source of concern for Saints' fans. While McAllister took part in the team's May minicamp and organized team activities on a limited basis and appears to be on schedule to return, nothing is certain until he puts on the pads and engages in full speed workouts. As a four-time 1,000-yard rusher, the powerfully-built McAllister is the key to the Saints' running game. After he was sidelined in Week 3 last season with a torn ACL in his left knee, the Saints struggled and wound up averaging just 91.6 yards a game to rank 28th in the league. Reggie Bush also missed McAllister after they formed a solid 1-2 punch in Bush's rookie year in 2006. Without McAllister, defenses targeted Bush on most running plays and he averaged just 3.7 yards a carry. 07/17/2008

Deuce McAllister of the New Orleans Saints is trying to do what few have done
before him -- be an effective running back after having reconstructive surgery
on both knees.
Sedrick Ellis and Tracy Porter, the New Orleans Saints' top two draft picks, remained unsigned and absent while the rest of the team reported to training camp Wednesday.
Our Dave Richard explains some solid running back draft strategies for Fantasy owners to consider in 2008, and adds why there are so many good rushers out there for people to consider on Draft Day.
