Green ready to roll for Texans: Ahman Green was supposed to be the answer to Houston's rushing woes when he joined the team last season. Instead the former Green Bay back was limited to 70 carries for 260 yards as he dealt with a nagging knee problem. The injury was first listed as a bone bruise and soon led to knee swelling. Numerous tests didn't uncover any other injuries but the injury caused him to miss all or part of 10 games. He still doesn't know exactly what the problem was, but said it was extremely painful. Though Green will start, the addition of veteran Chris Brown and rookie third-down back Steve Slaton should be beneficial for the team. The 6-foot Green and 6-3 Brown are both 220 pounds. Slaton is much smaller at 5-9 and 195 pounds. "I think the fact that we may have a change-up back now helps those big backs," head coach Gary Kubiak said. "Ahman gives you the ability for the big play, but if the young kid that we drafted can do the same thing, then I think big kids like Chris and then Darius (Walker) are good because they're hard to tackle. You would like to have a little bit of both." (Updated 05/23/2008).
Injury Report
Knee - Probable for the start of 2008 training camp (Updated - 5/23/08)
Fantasy Analysis
Green's days of being a safe 1,000-yard running back are long gone, especially with the Texans' RB corps quite deep. He's the best Fantasy option in Houston's backfield, though, making him no better than a low-end No. 3 Fantasy RB to start the season. Owners who settle for Green should also spend a late pick on Brown since Green is no lock to play 16 games. (Updated 05/23/2008).
RB Ahman Green's first season in Houston was cut short by injury. Still, the Texans expect him to lead the running game with the new zone-blocking scheme implemented. This is a big season for Green, who wants to prove he still has more left, and has more competition -- namely former Titans RB Chris Brown -- this time around. Green is already 31 years old but he is just two years removed from his last 1,000-yard season. 07/17/2008
