Ben Roethlisberger may be 2-4 in Denver, but those games were not against Vance Joseph-coached teams. The Broncos running game does concern me a bit, but the Steelers have the far better quarterback and the far better team. With an afternoon kickoff, Pittsburgh should be rested enough to pull away late even if Denver keeps it close for most of the game. James Conner can keep the chains moving, and the Steelers have enough weapons to take advantage of the Broncos secondary as long as the line can keep Big Ben semi-clean.
The Broncos have beaten Ben Roethlisberger the last four times they met in Denver and despite the Broncos' home edge being off at 1-3-1 ATS mark this season, the thing that matters most is current form and Denver is on a 4-1 ATS run. Pittsburgh has won six straight, but so did the Chargers last week before Denver won in Carson. The Broncos play well and cover.
The Steelers are a much different team at home than on the road; they haven't won by more than a TD in any road game this year despite being 4-0-1 away from home. Meanwhile, the score has been a combined 126-56 in their last three home games. Denver is a great home team, one that has lost by four or less to three division leaders this season. I see no reason why this should be a blowout, especially with the Broncos having a better rushing attack than a Jaguars offense that almost beat the Steelers last week.
The Steelers extended their straight-up win streak last Sunday to six, albeit by the skin of their teeth, and this spread seems a tad low against an opponent in semi-rebuilding mode. Yes, Denver is fresh off an upset of the Chargers but it has no aspirations for a playoff run. The QB comparison -- Ben Roethlisberger versus Case Keenum -- speaks volumes. If Denver CB Bradley Roby (concussion) bypasses the game, Big Ben can more easily clock the Broncos.
James Conner didn't do much last week but I think he'll play better against Denver. Big Ben will have a big game too. Pittsburgh has 37 sacks and the Steelers will put pressure on Case Keenum. The Broncos' win over the Chargers should come with an asterisk -- they were down 12 and LA was driving until Philip Rivers threw maybe as bad an interception as you'll ever see. That turned the whole game around. Lay the points with Pittsburgh.
