There are so many reasons to take the Giants on Monday night, including their desperation for a win, a mini-bye week that has allowed them to attempt to correct some offensive wrongs, and the Falcons being absolutely atrocious defensively (30th in the NFL). But all of my numbers -- and every comparison metric I use -- has Atlanta covering at home and winning by at least a touchdown. If the Falcons can shut down Saquon Barkley -- a tough ask for this defense, though Dan Quinn is a defensive-minded coach and quality schemer -- the Giants don’t have much else. Meanwhile, New York has to cover a bevy of Atlanta receivers and Tevin Coleman, a capable runner behind the injured Devonta Freeman. This line fell to -3 a few days ago, so I’m not getting the best number, but it’s way better than the inflated -6 from early last week. The Giants could definitely cover and win, but I think the Falcons pull it out.
Prime-time overs have been so automatic that bettors are likely drooling over Monday’s game. The Falcons' defense has been like the Big 12 while their offense hasn’t missed a beat. Facing a Giants team with extra time off from Week 6's Thursday game, one would expect new wrinkles offensively. Yet expect the same clock-killing Eli Manning dinks and turnovers from both sides to keep this Under.
This is a game where both teams could be in the 30s. The Falcons have seen all four of their home games get to at least 55 points this year, and they figure to leave it all on the table heading into a bye week and desperate for a win to still have a shot at the playoffs. But Saquon Barkley should carve up a beat-up Falcons D as well.
This spread is just too large, and there's a chance it could be even bigger by the time Monday night's game kicks off. I get that the Giants are bad, but people tend to overreact to how bad the Giants are because they're the New York Giants and not the Indianapolis Giants. The Falcons defense ranks 30th in the NFL, allowing 0.487 points per play. It's been especially bad against the run, allowing 5.1 yards per carry, which ranks 29th in the NFL. Should be a good night for Saquon Barkley.
"Monday Night Football" pits squads that have major issues on separate sides of the ball. The Giants' offensive woes and the Falcons' defensive struggles have been well-documented. The advantage in this game will side with the team that can run the ball and get significant stops defensively. To me, that sounds like the Giants. I can understand those that worry about their passing game and Eli Manning, but with the way the week has gone for the G-Men, they are desperate for a win; which means a lot of Saquon Barkley left, Saquon Barkley right, Saquon Barkley up the middle and Saquon Barkley in the passing game. Look for them to ride their horse to victory. Take the Giants and the points.
