If I have a choice between Drew Brees and Eli Manning, I'm taking Brees every single damn time. The Saints defense -- particularly its secondary -- is an absolute mess, and there will be a ton of points scored in this one. Still, without Evan Engram, the Giants are missing a big weapon in the middle of the field. And it's not like New York's defense is a bunch of world-beaters either. In a game that should go over the total, I'll stick with the quarterback who can lead a game-winning touchdown drive (if necessary) to cover the field goal.
This is a terrible spot for the Saints, playing a second straight road game and coming off an overtime win against the Falcons. The Giants return home, where the defense did a solid job against the Jaguars by holding them to just one offensive TD. The Saints have had issues on defense and just placed their best cornerback on IR. Eli Manning showed a spark of life in last week's win over Houston, and I expect him to move the ball consistently against a defense giving up a league-worst 10.2 net yards per attempt.
When a halfway decent home team is awarded more than a field goal, you should usually consider taking it. Eli Manning heated up against Houston last Sunday and now takes aim at a shoddy secondary weakened further by the loss of CB Patrick Robinson (ankle). WR Odell Beckham Jr. will be strutting often after receptions. Saints QB Drew Brees might need to be on the lookout for pass-rushing OLB Olivier Vernon (ankle), poised to make his season debut. Better yet for New York, CB Eli Apple (groin) is on the brink of returning after being last seen in Week 2.
The Saints are a mess defensively, but this offense is one of the top three in the league right now. Brees, Kamara and Thomas is a virtually unstopable trio. Put up 40 points or good luck beating this offense. Eli has two awesome weapons with Odell Beckham and Saquon Barkley, but I'm afraid this offense is too predictable with Evan Engram on the sidelines. My ratings have the Saints as one of the biggest edges of the week. I make the Saints -9.5 on a neutral field and -6.5 on the road in this environment. Four points is a large home field advantage, and there is still three points of value. I'm laying the road chalk here with Brees and company.
The Saints offensive juggernaut rolls into MetLife Stadium fresh off of a 45-point output against the Atlanta Falcons. New Orleans' only issue this season has been the defense, which is having trouble covering any passing game this season. So, the Giants offense should look good against the Saints. However, the Giants themselves struggle on the backend, especially at safety. Look for a lot of points scored in what should be a back-and-forth affair. The Saints have more than enough experience in shootouts and should outgun the Giants.
The Giants hung on to get past the Texans, but it was shaky after a hot start. Now they face Drew Brees and that potent offense, and my computer projections don't like New York's chances of keeping up. The Saints cover 60 percent of the time, and by an average of eight points. Jump on New Orleans.
