The Chargers are finally giving Hunter Henry the snaps he deserves, and it's paid off the past two weeks. Denver's offensive struggles are real; the Broncos will be without Emmanuel Sanders, with Demaryius Thomas playing on an injured leg. Take L.A. to win its third straight.
Denver will be missing three receivers in this matchup, and No. 1 option Demaryius Thomas could be less than 100 percent after picking up a calf injury last week. Considering Trevor Siemian's issues this year, the Broncos offense doesn't have much upside in this matchup through the air. The Denver defense is of course one of the best units in the league, and Philip Rivers hasn't had much success against them, with the Chargers being held to 21 points or less in each of their last seven games against the Broncos.
I love the Denver defense, but the Trevor Siemian-led offense is way too crummy to support. I feel good enough about how bad he is on the road that I'm willing to take the Chargers, who are 2-8-1 ATS in their last 11 games. The Chargers have yet to win at their new home, but now have a two-game win streak. Chargers are the play.
Both teams rank in the upper half of the league on offense -- Denver is ranked No. 12 and Los Angeles is No. 14. The Chargers’ vulnerable run defense could be exposed. They rank last for ground yards allowed per game and second in yards yielded per rush (5.0), while the Broncos accumulate the ninth-most rushing yards on average. Both units are in a mini-slump, but this total that opened at 42.5 seems headed in the wrong direction. WR Mike Williams, the Chargers’ gifted first-round pick, made his injury-delayed debut last Sunday and should play a more prominent role.
