Aaron Rodgers and the Packers have looked awful on more than one occasion this season, but I like them to get the job done tonight in Washington. This game is going to be very cold and windy and I'm giving the edge to the Packers in these conditions in a primetime game. This game should be a pick'em in these conditions.
This is the same spot the Packers were in last season as they entered the playoffs. Odds were against them as small dogs on the road against the Redskins. Though the Packers' personnel seems a bit worse than last season, there is still plenty of time to phase to a higher level. Grab the Packers to right the ship just as they did last January.
The Redskins are feeling pretty confident coming off a big victory over the Vikings. But QB Kirk Cousins still puts the ball at risk far too often and he won’t get lucky this week versus a desperate Packers defense. Look for Green Bay to force a turnover or two and for the Packers offense to get rolling early in this one. This will look exactly like the Wild Card game last season.
Kirk Cousins just posted a 110.9 passer rating against the Vikings, a game in which he was sacked once and rarely pressured. He can certainly exploit the Packers -- who may or may not get Clay Matthews back -- with that kind of protection. I'm also expecting a faster start from the Packers after two straight sluggish starts. The Over has cashed in all five Washington home games this year.
Washington has been steady all season while the Packers have been rather shabby on both sides of the ball. The one thing we can count on from both these teams is a high-scoring game. The Packers' last three have gone Over the total as they've given up 47, 31 and 33 during their three-game skid. Washington's offense, which has helped produce the Over in seven of the past nine games, fits the profile of recent teams the Packers have failed against. This should be a very entertaining affair reaching the 60s.
