Smith still stifled in Denver: Nuggets G J.R. Smith failed to start any games during the 2007-08 regular season for the first time in his career. He averaged only 19.2 minutes in 74 appearances, but did average 15.7 points, 2.3 rebounds and 2.0 assists while seeing 21.8 minutes of playing time in 30 appearances after the All-Star break. Fantasy Analysis
Smith has been a productive player throughout his NBA career when given the playing time. But he was buried on the depth chart in New Orleans and was ultimately replaced in the starting lineup in Denver in 2006-07 when the team traded for Allen Iverson. Head coach George Karl has made no secret of his distaste for Smith and has buried him in his doghouse at times. But his efforts off the bench in the second half of the season bode well for a bigger role for him in 2008-09 as the team's sixth man/energy guy off the bench. For that reason, Smith will be a real sleeper in the middle-to-late rounds of most Fantasy leagues. He's an injury or a trade away from a breakout Fantasy season. (Updated 05/13/2008).
