Cook to miss Summer League games: The Heat announced Friday that Daequan Cook has separated his left, non-shooting, shoulder, meaning he won't be available for the five-games-in-five-days summer league schedule starting Monday in Orlando. Cook - who suffered the injury Thursday night - will be sidelined 2-4 weeks, a significant blow because the Heat hoped the second-year guard could use a strong summer showing as a springboard into the 2008-09 season. (Updated 07/05/2008).
Injury Report
Shoulder - Out for Orlando Summer League games. Expected to be ready for 2008-09 training camp (Updated - 7/5/08)
Fantasy Analysis
Cook appeared in just 59 games as a rookie and even served a stint in the NBDL. He did start 19 games, though, and averaged 12.2 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.9 assists in those games. He averaged just 8.8 points, 3.0 rpg and 1.3 rpg in 2007-08. He was the latest victim of Pat Riley's notorious disdain for rookies and young players not named Dwyane Wade. In 2008-09, Riley will no longer be on the bench coaching the Heat and it could become possible for Cook to play a much bigger role off the bench. In fact, it's not totally ridiculous to see Cook playing alongside Wade in the backcourt. For that reason, Cook is a player to monitor during the offseason and in the preseason. There is sleeper potential here. (Updated 07/05/2008).
