--C David Ross (back) started his second consecutive Cactus League game Thursday, as he continues his bid to prove that he is healthy enough to start Opening Day. Ross went a combined 0-for-4 in the two games.
--INF Andy Green was reassigned to the Reds' minor league camp Thursday after a productive spring. He hit .306 with two homers and nine RBIs.
--RHP Edinson Volquez has solidified his spot in the rotation by compiling a 2.70 ERA over 20 innings, walking only four while striking out 26.
--RHP Homer Bailey, expected to be in the rotation at the start of camp, was optioned to Class AAA Louisville. He put together a 5.21 ERA in 19 spring innings, walking 16 and striking out only 11. RHP Josh Fogg will get the final spot in the rotation. Fogg has a 3.38 ERA in 16 Grapefruit League innings.
--INF Andy Phillips, vying for a utility spot, is the only player on the roster to appear in all 28 exhibition games. He is hitting .256.
--RHP Johnny Cueto, nearly spotless all spring in a bid for the rotation, didn't make it out of the first inning in his last start, needing 41 pitches (only 18 strikes) to get two outs against the Rays. He gave up five runs, five walks and three hits, but manager Dusty Baker chalked it up to just a bad start, "something that happens to everybody and probably won't ever happen again in Cueto's career."
--SS Alex Gonzalez (knee) is likely to start the season on the disabled list, but he is expected back by mid-April.
BY THE NUMBERS 7 -- Losing seasons in a row since 2000.
QUOTE TO NOTE "We have to get rid of the shadows here, and by that I mean the losing. We have to change the attitude and the philosophy, and although six weeks isn't a long time to do that, I can see improvements." -- Manager Dusty Baker.
