They had the potential to easily add a Sabathia or Harden, which could have vaulted them in a wide-open division race, but we think they can still compete with what they have and they don't have to sacrifice their future to do it. A good stand pat ... for now.

Juan Pierre went from a bench player to a key loss. The good news is they figure to get healthy around the All-Star break and are still within striking distance of the vulnerable D-Backs. They have some firepower to make some additions at the trade deadline, too, as the lowest-rated 'buyer' on this list.

If they could only get healthy, the D-Backs could be overtaken in the NL Worst. They really need Brad Penny (shoulder) and Hiroki Kuroda (shoulder) to return in July for it to happen.

So much for Joe Cool bringing the Dodgers back to respectability. They made the Padres and Tigers look like contenders again on that terrible road trip.

The rough patch might be out of their system, but they really have blown a good time to gain some ground on the struggling D-Backs.

That was a brutal 1-6 road trip -- even young gun Clayton Kershaw looked pedestrian. They are much better than they have shown, obviously.

Clayton Kershaw was as good as advertised in his debut. He sure didn't look like a 20-year-old who had never appeared above Double-A. If he sticks around, the steadily declining D-Backs should be worried about their hold on the West.

They are coming out of their funk in time for a challenging stretch vs. three of our top teams: Cardinals, Cubs and Mets. This homestand should help them close the gap on the D-Backs.

OK, so we got a little too giddy over their hot streak and they came crashing back to mediocrity. Remember, though, their skid coincides with Rafael Furcal's back injury. L.A. will be a top-10 candidate once he gets healthy again.

This is more like what we thought they were capable of. Their offense got hot all at once -- well, save for the awful decline of Andruw Jones.
