Brandon Boggs, playing only his 11th major league game, recovered from an early hard crash into a wall to go 3-for-4 with a homer, a double and three RBI as Texas ended the A's four-game winning streak. Boggs was lunging for a foul ball near the left-field corner in the first inning when he stumbled and slid on the ground. His right knee slammed into an unpadded part of the concrete side wall and a small pipe running along it. He remained down for several minutes before finally getting up, wiping off his torn pants after what he later described as "probably one of the hardest crashes I've had."

One day after getting tackled by Mariners 1B Richie Sexson during a bench-clearing brawl, Rangers SP Kason Gabbard had bandages covering scrapes and bruises on both of his knees Friday. He is looking forward, however, to making his next start Tuesday at home -- against Seattle. "I had a bunch of guys on top of me and I don't really know what happened after that," said Gabbard, who came off the disabled list Thursday after being sidelined with a stiff back. "I'm looking ahead and looking forward to my next start. It's against the Mariners and I'm going to go out there and honestly pitch the best I can."

The Rangers placed right-handed pitcher Kevin Millwood on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right groin on Sunday before Texas' game against the Oakland Athletics. The Rangers called up right-hander Doug Mathis from Triple-A Oklahoma to take Millwood's roster spot. Mathis is 5-0 with a 3.55 ERA in seven starts for Oklahoma, but will pitch in relief for Texas. The Rangers won't need another fifth starter until May 20 at Minnesota. A.J. Murray and Luis Mendoza are the likely candidates to join the rotation.

Vicente Padilla allowed two hits over seven innings to outpitch Erik Bedard as the Texas Rangers beat the struggling Seattle Mariners 2-0 Wednesday night. Padilla (5-2), who has won three straight starts, walked two and struck out a season-high eight. Padilla opened the game by hitting Ichiro Suzuki but he didn't allow him to advance past first. In the second, Yuniesky Betancourt had a one-out single to center but he was eliminated on a double play. The next 12 batters were retired by Padilla until Suzuki's two-out single in the sixth. But Padilla struck out Jose Lopez to end the inning. Padilla ran into trouble of his own making in the seventh, walking the first two batters Raul Ibanez and Adrian Beltre, on 3-2 counts. He then struck out Jeff Clement, Betancourt and Wladimir Balentien.
