    News
Astros P Brian Moehler struck out five and walked one to pick up the win Friday at the Dodgers in his first start since Sept. 29, 2006 with the Marlins. He has spent the majority of his big-league career as a starter, though has been used exclusively in relief since rejoining the Astros in January 2007. "I'm at a point in my career where I really just want to go to the playoffs. And whatever role there is, whether it's reliever or starter or both, it doesn't matter to me. I enjoy either role," Moehler said. "Am I capable of starting? Yeah, but I'm probably not capable of giving them 32-35 starts anymore." Moehler pitched five shutout innings, allowing five hits.

Lance Berkman hit a game-tying two-run homer at San Francisco Monday. Berkman hit his 13th home run to match Philadelphia's Chase Utley for the major league lead and also doubled, singled and has an 11-game hitting streak. Manager Cecil Cooper wasn't even sure until a couple of hours before game time whether Berkman would play because of a tender groin.

He entered with two runners aboard, then gave up a single to Rich Aurilia that loaded the bases. Pinch-hitter Ray Durham flied out to left to end it. Valverde has now recorded two straight one-out saves on successive days.

The Sports Xchange reports that Astros SP Wandy Rodriguez, who is on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left groin muscle, continued making progress Saturday while throwing a pain-free bullpen session. "It didn't bother me," he said. "On Tuesday I'll throw a simulated game. Then we'll see what they do with me. I think I'm fine."

    News
Astros SP Shawn Chacon ended up with his eighth straight no-decision to start the season Sunday at the Dodgers -- tying a major league record. He gave up two runs and seven hits in six innings and struck out three, walking one. The nine-year veteran, in his first season with the Astros, joined left-hander Dick Stigman of the 1965 Minnesota Twins as the only pitchers to have no-decisions in their first eight starts of a season. "It's pretty weird," Chacon said. "Someone told me that I tied a major-league record. I don't know how excited I am about it, but I can't do anything but keep trying to pitch well and keep our team in the game. If the relievers get all my wins, fine. They can take them. But I definitely want to get a win before I get a loss."

The Sport Xchange reports that after being drilled with pitches on both wrists over the weekend against the Dodgers, Astros SS Miguel Tejada said it felt as though he was wearing handcuffs. "I feel like I'm in handcuffs. It's OK," said Tejada, whose left wrist was broken last year when new Astros teammate Doug Brocail hit him with a pitch. "I'm happy for God to not see that my wrist broke this time. I got hit pretty good a couple times already. I remember last year when I broke my hand... when I got hit the first one on Saturday I was nervous because I get a bad memory from last year."
