Fantasy Analysis
Maddux has been all over the place this season and his game is now more than ever predicated on location and changing speeds with his pitches. Obviously, he doesn't throw with the same velocity he once had. Maddux will get two starts in Fantasy Week 8 (May 19-25), against the Cardinals and the Reds. The two starts make him slightly more attractive than usual in mixed formats, but don't reach for the veteran, especially as he's part of a bad team right now. (Updated 05/15/2008).
Maddux gave up four runs and 11 hits in just 4 1-3 innings of Thursday's 4-0 loss to the Cubs. (Updated 05/16/2008)
Advice
Maddux, who picked up career win No. 350 his last time out, has been inconsistent all season. He has a 0.36 ERA in four of his starts, but a 7.06 ERA in his other five outings. He has already allowed three multihit games this season.
