Mendoza gets roughed up Tuesday: Texas SP Luis Mendoza (2-4) gave up an RBI double to Jermaine Dye in the first inning and got roughed up in the fourth, allowing Nick Swisher's three-run homer and A.J. Pierzynski's RBI single to put Chicago up 5-0. Mendoza was pulled after giving up consecutive singles to Dye and Thome in the fifth. He allowed six runs on nine hits in four-plus innings. Fantasy Analysis
He doesn't have top-of-the-rotation stuff, but Mendoza has the tools to be a low-end Fantasy option if he can get enough run support from the powerful Rangers offense. He's now followed a solid performance with a mediocre one to be careful when starting him. He is a two-start pitcher next week and makes his next start Monday against Seattle. That makes him someone to start in deeper mixed formats, for sure. (Updated 07/23/2008).
