Tigers SP Justin Verlander continued his poor beginning of 2008 by falling to 1-6 on Thursday against the Red Sox. He gave up five runs on nine hits in six innings. He struck out five, but allowed Kevin Youkilis' two-run homer in the fifth. "Obviously, the big hit was Youkilis hitting the home run," Verlander said. "Looking back, it was because I was flying off a little bit, I was trying to go down and away, and it runs back in the middle of the plate. He didn't hit it great but he got decent enough wood on it to get it elevated and get it over the fence." (Updated 05/09/2008).

Fantasy Analysis
Verlander didn't lose his sixth game last year until Sept. 18th. Clearly, he's not pitching his best right now, but he still has his velocity and his health, so we remain confident he'll get through his early-season command issues and get back to pitching like a Cy Young contender. You pretty much have to hang on to him and hope for the best because his trade value is at an all-time low right now. He has a good matchup to get back on track in his next start Wednesday at Kansas City. (Updated 05/09/2008).
Verlander allowed five runs and a season-high nine hits in six innings of a 5-1 loss to Boston on Thurday. (Updated 05/09/2008)
