Cruz outrighted to Triple-A Oklahoma: The Texas Rangers sent Nelson R. Cruz outright to Triple-A Oklahoma on Thursday after the outfielder cleared waivers. Cruz was designated for assignment Saturday when the team made its final moves to complete its 25-man roster. Cruz hit .261 with two home runs in 27 spring games, raising his average 50 points in the four games he played after being told early last week that he wasn't going to make the team. Fantasy Analysis
The Rangers got Cruz as part of a six-player deal in July 2006 that also brought All-Star outfielder Carlos Lee from Milwaukee. Texas wanted Cruz in that deal because of his long-term potential. The 27-year-old Cruz has hit .237 in 137 games for the Rangers since then, with 15 home runs and 56 RBI. It looks as though he will be nothing more than organizational depth during his career and can be ignored in Fantasy leagues until further notice. (Updated 04/03/2008).
