Mitre has Tommy John surgery: The South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports that Marlins SP Sergio Mitre underwent Tommy John surgery on Tuesday and is out until at least the middle of the 2009 season. Dr. James Andrews performed the surgery.

Fantasy Analysis

Mitre was only supposed to be out 4-6 weeks with this injury, but now it's going to be much, much, much longer. Continue to ignore him in all Fantasy formats until at least the middle of next season.

Mitre will miss the rest of the season and most of next year after surgery to replace an elbow ligament. (Updated 07/16/2008)

Advice

The right-hander, out since spring training with a forearm strain, had Tommy John surgery Tuesday, his agent, Matt Sosnick said. Dr. James Andrews performed the operation in Birmingham, Ala. Recovery and rehabilitation typically takes 12 to 18 months.
