Mets not optimistic about Church: The New York Daily News reports that the Mets aren't very optimistic about the chances of OF Ryan Church returning this season. Church has been out since July 6 due to aftereffects from a pair of concussions. "I'm not optimistic about that," manager Jerry Manuel said of getting him back. "It's very foreign to all of us and we just aren't sure as to where it could go. And historically, it hasn't gone in our direction. We've been going through this, I don't know how long. Two months? Whatever. But, if it does turn out to be something favorable for us, it would be very, very welcome." (Updated 08/07/2008).
Injury Report
Post-concussion syndrome - 15-day DL. Out until at least late August (Updated - 8/7/08)
Fantasy Analysis
When healthy, Church can perform on a .300-30-100-100 level, but he has to cross some rivers before he can play again. Concussions are not something to mess with, and with the emergence of Fernando Tatis, the Mets would be smart to just let Church heal up and focus on getting back in 2009. (Updated 08/07/2008).
Church's return for the remainder of the season appears doubtful, according to the New York Daily News. After a series of evaluations, he has yet to be cleared to play. Church is scheduled for another evaluation either Thursday or Friday. (Updated 08/07/2008)
Advice
Church has been out since July 6 due to effects from a pair of concussions, but Mets manager Jerry Manuel told the newspaper he wasn't optimistic about a possible return for the left fielder. Church didn't speak with reporters on Wednesday, but after taking batting practice with the team and fielding balls in the outfield, he didn't give any indication to be more positive about the upcoming evaluation.
