Rays OF Rocco Baldelli was one of the hitters who faced Scott Kazmir during a batting practice session Friday, taking batting practice for the first time since spring training. The outfielder has been sidelined since last May because of lingering hamstring problems and what doctors have told him and the Rays is mitochondrial disorder, a condition that causes extreme fatigue. He was placed on the 60-day disabled list last month. "Nothing vastly improved," manager Joe Maddon said. "We're just taking it slowly, and evaluating it consistently. He wanted to come out and do this today, so that's a good sign." (Updated 04/11/2008).
Injury Report
Illness - 60-day DL. Out until at least late July (Updated - 3/28/08)
Fantasy Analysis
Baldelli, whose option the Rays declined at the beginning of the month, is now technically a free-agent-to-be to go along with the fact he will be a 27-year-old who hasn't reached his peak. His chronic fatigue, though, will likely affect his performance on the field, if he can even play again. He was placed on the 60-day DL and is out until at least midseason, but stash him away on DL spots in deeper leagues. If he ever finds health, he is potentially an elite talent. (Updated 04/11/2008).
