The Reds blew a six-run lead in the ninth inning of Wednesday's game against the Marlins and wasted an excellent outing by Bronson Arroyo, who was in line for his second straight win. Arroyo threw seven scoreless innings on short rest. Center fielder Corey Patterson threw out runners at home and third base, helping Arroyo get in position for a victory the old-fashioned way -- with only three days between starts. Arroyo gave up five hits, throwing 111 pitches. He left after striking out the side in the seventh. He walked three and struck out five. Arroyo volunteered to work on short rest so the club could get its rotation back in order following a weekend doubleheader. They should write an apology note to the 59 percent of Arroyo owners, who witnessed an easy win come off the board. Arroyo has improved as of late, but is still nothing more than a low-end Fantasy SP in mixed leagues. His next scheduled start is for Monday against the Dodgers. He is on track to be a two-start pitcher Fantasy Week 8 (May 19-25) with his second start coming against the Padres. Both starts are on the road where Arroyo is 2-1 with a 5.75 ERA in four starts.
