Olson comes undone in the sixth: Orioles SP Garrett Olson allowed six runs and six hits in 5 2/3 innings during a 7-4 loss to the Red Sox Monday. Trailing 3-2 in the sixth, Boston grabbed the lead for good against Olson (8-7). Jason Bay and Jed Lowrie hit consecutive doubles, tying the game. After Jeff Bailey walked, Coco Crisp hit an RBI single up the middle. Jacoby Ellsbury reached on an infield hit to load the base before Dustin Pedroia lined reliever Dennis Sarfate's outside pitch to right, making it 6-3. Olson allowed homers to Jason Varitek and Bailey while walking five and striking out four.

Olson, recalled from Triple-A Norfolk to make the start, felt he went away from his best pitch by trying to fool Boston's strong fastball hitting lineup. "You've still got to stay with your best stuff," he said. "My fastball, I thought was my best pitch. I think I got a little defensive." Olson has a 6.53 ERA on the season and continues to be inconsistent. Olson has potential as a young lefty, but needs to iron out his problems in the majors. He is nothing more than a high-risk rookie starter for the deepest of AL-only leagues. His next scheduled start might come Saturday in a doubleheader against the Ravens.
