Cubs SP Ryan Dempster (5-1) struck out a career-high 12 and hit an RBI single during a four-run fifth inning, leading the Chicago Cubs over the sorry San Diego Padres 4-0 on Thursday. Dempster went 8 1/3 shutout innings, allowing six hits and one walk, while lowering his ERA to 2.35.

Fantasy Analysis

Dempster has gone at least six innings and allowed three or fewer runs in eight of his nine starts this season as he continues to impress since returning to his former life as a starter. In Fantasy Week 8 (May 19-25), Dempster will get one start on Tuesday at Houston. While Minute Maid Park is a hitter's paradise, Dempster is pitching superbly in 2008 and deserves to be a starter in the majority of formats for the time being.
