This is a play strictly from my ratings. I have the Cubs 30 cents better on offense, Arrieta 10 cents better than Pomeranz and a small edge defensively. After a slow start, the Cubs have won six of eight. Play on the world champs. I made this line Cubs -144.
Right now, the high-powered Red Sox aren’t hitting, as they were held to just one run over the past two games in losses to the Yankees. This bodes poorly Friday when they host the Cubs, who have won the last four interleague games started by Jake Arrieta. They have also won their last six road games against winning teams and seven straight against lefty starters. Boston has four of the last five starts by Drew Pomeranz, but he is getting too much respect with this price.
Jake Arrieta takes a significant hit in the wOBA model due to the negative park and league shift to Fenway, but still offers value at -113. The Cubs are winning 56 percent of simulations vs. Drew Pomeranz. Facing the DH certainly hurts Arrieta, but not nearly as much as the positive impact of giving this Cubs lineup a 9th hitter against left-handed pitching. Take advantage of the discount on Arrieta as this is likely one of the only times you'll get him at -113.
