The Royals kept up their hot streak Friday, using a five-run first inning to spark a 6-3 win over the host Red Sox as a moderate underdog. Kansas City has now won 16 of 19 as it attempts to make a late-season run at a wild-card berth and a chance to defend its World Series title. I think Saturday’s second game against Boston presents a carbon copy of the value spot provided Friday. Considering the current form of both the starting pitcher and the club overall, the overlay on the underdog Royals screams out as the value side. Fast-emerging Danny Duffy (11-1, 2.66 ERA) has won 10 straight decisions and is coming off a one-run outing against the Twins. He is 5-1 with a 2.04 ERA in eight road starts. Boston’s David Price (12-8, 4.00 ERA) has won three straight starts, but also has had his share of struggles for a starter who is compensated like a franchise cornerstone. His ERA shows he has benefited from the best offense in baseball, and he has given up three or more earned runs in six of his past 10 starts. I’m backing Kansas City again.
