This game is similar to the Red Sox vs. Rays game last night where I knew I was opposite the sharp money, but I trusted the model and we were rewarded with a win. According to SportsInsights, 51 percent of the bets have been placed on the Yankees, while 71 percent of the money has been placed on the Mariners. While I respect the sharp money, I think they are wrong again this afternoon, as the wOBA model has a clear play on the Yankees with Masahiro Tanaka vs. Hisashi Iwakuma. Tanaka gets the benefit of a great pitching environment in Seattle, and that's all he will need to keep the Mariners from putting up too many runs. Iwakuma has been better lately, but is statistically not much better than a league average pitcher at this point. Take the Yankees as slight road underdogs this afternoon.
