Talking Rocker.....You are the one who said that people get hurt in sports and did not evidently like the fact that I am concentrating my caring about the horses so therefore you can help the people.....it is not mature that you are calling me a democrat as if that is an insult even though I am not a member of that party and you do not know what my politics are.

I am a victim rights activist which includes my caring about victims of molestation, rape, animal abuse,etc.....and believe that prevention makes the most sense but the next best solution is to eliminate as many possible causes for animal abuse we can......and horse racing has been around for such a long time surely by now we would have enough information based on experience to not have so many horses harmed, hurt and having to be put down.

It was civil of you to explain your post but there again you place the blame on me in that you think I perceived your post as a threat.......it seems quite clear that anyone would have perceived your post as a threat.  And there again your last comment "pat yourselves on the back and go on to the next cause" is sarcastic and unless you yourself spend some time on good causes you should not be insulting those of us who are involved.  I am hoping that you actually do care about innocent animals and that it is just not to same elevated level that I have achieved.

Sorry again NS. No more sarcasm. The male/female/computer thing came from other posts on this topic as I read all 9 pages at the time before I responded. Nobody loves animals more than me. I donate time to the local animal shelter each week and currently have seven dogs, three of them rescued from other shelters. GA currently has some of the weakest animal laws in the nation. If you take the time to look back at some of these crazy posts you will see that I did not fire the first shot. As far as the threat, clearly it was you that said I probably broke the law (sorry again). You are involved in many more causes/issues than me (congrats for that) but when it comes animals I don't think anyone is elevated over me.

Talking Rocker.......thanks for your post of 5/16 at 8:17 and your change of attitude is very much appreciated.  Yes, am involved in numerous causes - all have something in common and that is that I refuse to accept innocent suffering....I cannot list my credentials on a public site but please just be assured that I have been involved in animal rights for many decades, ie rescues, legislation, protests, etc.  Have served on city boards that dealt with the issue of animals.....been active on the state and federal level.....

am not ashamed to state that I love and respect animals and will never ever stop trying to better their lives regardless of the spewing of insults, etc. from some on this site who have for many months made it their task to regularly do so......I accept that there are many people who will not comprehend nor cannot for whatever reason comprehend how evil animal abuse is and how it negatively impacts our society.

It matters not how long or on what level you and I are involved in helping the cause as I am delighted to know you care and prove that caring with your time and efforts - and having given a home to those pups........I thank you and I know the animals thank you!

Welcome to the site.

Hey ns, (thats southern for hi,hello)
Since I still have not attained a high enough rating to post my own thread I will have to pick your brain under this one. As you may have figured out I am currently living in a small county in northern GA. We have no organized animal control/shelters, it is all volunteer. In fact if you were to call the sheriff's office today to complain about an animal you would be told to shoot it. (really, i'm not kidding) Several years ago one of my animals was attacked and killed by a stray dog. We have no leash law and when I went to the Sheriff and County Commissioner's office to see if they would enforce the state laws on animals which I downloaded from the internet and provided to them they seemed real concerned until they read the part that says if they do not enforce these laws that there is no penalty and nothing can be done to them. (yes, it really says this too) After they read that part I was thrown out of their offices. I have worked to elect a new commissioner and will be working to elect a newsheriff in Nov. I have written letters to my state rep., senator and governor and have not had any luck in changing these useless laws. The best thing to happen in this state so far was the Michael Vick incident I am sorry to say. I'm wondering if any of your experiences have been in the south and if you have any fresh ideas for me. I have spent years bucking the system and the only one who got in trouble was me. I have found out the if you get into the system you can reek havoc and the people do not have to agree with you but they have to do something or they will be the ones in trouble. Like I said it's been years and I haven't found the way in on this issue. Would you know where the back door is?

It seems confusing as you stated you found out "if they do not enforce these laws that there is no penalty and nothing can be done to them" but then in the last part of your post "if you get into the system you can reek havoc and the people do not have to agree with you but they have to do something or they will be the ones in trouble".

I would suggest your contacting national animal organizations.....seems that what you are doing re trying to elect a new sheriff/commissioner is a postive for your area. Have indeed worked with many in Ga. and suggest you contact the gov. by phone and speak with the staff person who can help you rather than going thru alot of people.  There are state laws that every county has to follow regardless of the size of the county.  It is indeed the terrible truth that many sheriff/police depts in the South are deserving of their bad reputations because of their apathy towards the issue of animal suffering.  It takes a higher degree of civility to comprehend the negatives animal abuse has on our society.

In order to attempt to change the laws one has to have done so for a number of years in order to establish credibility and knowledge of who to contact.....I cannot share my contacts as that would be considered a complete no-no and a breach of confidence.  Yes, the case of vile vick has helped bring the subject of evil dogfighting to the general public however until mankind is less ignorant animal abuse/brutality will unfortunately continue.

Again, Talking Rocker, any time and efforts you expend will help the animals in your "neck of the woods"....Ga. is a lovely state with its fair share of people caused problems.

To PDR creator of this thread,

You said  people with a different opinion than you are pathetic morons.  Why did you create this thread if you aren't capable of debate?

Thank you for defining a pathetic moron.
