What do you think is the worst moves of all time?

Personally, I think it's Nolan Ryan for Jim Fregosi.  Ryan has thrown 7 no hitters in his career, first of which was 35 years ago Thursday.  Meanwhile, we have never had a pitcher throw one.  Dare I say, the Ryan Curse?

I agree with you number one. How about these:

2. Tom Seaver to the Reds for Doug Flynn, Steve Henderson, Pat Zachry, & Dan Norman

3. Mike Scott to the Astros for Danny Heep.

4. Jeff Kent to Clevland for Carlos Baerga.

5. Scott Kazmir to the Rays for Victor Zambrano & Bartolome Fortunato

what about Mike Bordick for Melvin Mora

how much of an impact would mora have had in that series that year?  Bordick was horrible.  Mora was doing ok at SS and would have been another clutch bat.

i think seaver and ryan are a tie for number 1
both hall of famers
both threw no hitters
both were freaks of nature

As Rad92 said both Ryan and Seaver are the worst deals ever but I think the Seaver deal ranks as the all time worst. When Ryan was traded, he had serious control problems and even though he had good stuff, who knew he had HOF stuff? But with Seaver, the Mets knew he was the real deal. He had won the Cy Young award and was known as "the franchise", but the GM McDonald didn't get along with him so he traded away not just our greatest but one of the greatest pitchers of all time b/c he didn't like him.

Here are a few others:

- Amos Otis for Joe Foy

- Rick Aguilera and Kevin Tapani for Frank Viola

Somebody once did a study on the Web of which franchise did the best, historically, in trades and which did the worst.  The Mets were so far behind in last place it was almost a statistical anomaly -- nearly twice as bad as the next-worst team.

On the flip side, the Mets have actually had a great trade go their way. How about a nobody 2nd string catcher named Ed Hearn for some guy by the name of David Cone.

Minaya seems to be a good judge of talent no matter what people say. He had good sense enough to unload the likes of Loduca, Milledge, and Mota. Loduca and Mota both costs the Mets last years division in the final two weeks alone. Mota blew 2 games in late September and Loduca was a double play machine most of the season, especially in the clutch. The pick-up of Church and Schneider for Milledge looks like a steal on his part. The Santana deal was a no brainer as well.

I think it's time for Minaya to part ways with Heilman, just like it was a great move to unload Sosa and Figueroa. . He blew tonight's game for them and he, along with Sosa are probably the difference between the Mets being 2 games over .500 and 8 games over. The long reliever became an achillies heal for the Mets last year  (Sele and Sosa) and this year and it's time to fix that problem. Maybe when Martinez and El Duque return, Pelfrey can step into the role. If it's at the expense of unloading Heilman I'd be the 1st one to make the move. He can still bring in a good reliever or at the least a prospect or two and could become a starter on a half dozen teams starving for pitching. He has great stuff (most of the time) but he wasn't made to pitch in NY for some reason. The Mets never had the confidence in him to make him a starter again after his dismal rookie season and maybe there's greener pastures for him in another city. Either way, if the Mets can fix that problem they'd be looking a whole lot better these days.

How about Mike Scott for Danny Heep .  Scott than won the Cy Young on Houston.

How about Rusty Staub for Mickey Lolich !

The worst has to be the Nolan Ryan trade.  Ryan was wild but the Mets knew he had a live arm.  They trade him for old man Jim Fregosi.  Horrible......

Not only did Mike Scott win the Cy Young, he killed the Mets for the rest of his career.  We haven't done vry good bringing in pitchers as a rule -
