If Affliction can get past the licensing issues with the CSAC this card could very well be the most star studded non UFC card in US history.

If it does play out like many are saying . . .

Fedor vs. Sylvia

Arvloski vs. Rothwell

Barnett vs. Rizzo

(In just those 3 fights you have 5 of what many would consider the 10 best heavyweights in th world, and Rizzo is a legend if no longer at the top of hus game.)

You add to that two big name fighters like Lindland and Sobral and what a debut event you have!!!

But here is the problem:  outside of hardcore MMA fans this card doesn't have a mass appeal, I hate to say it but EliteXC CBS debut card will get way more publicity and discussion from many people here in America.

And that is sad.

I doubt seriously Arlovski is going to Affliction, there is nothing out there pointing to it.

So that leaves as its only good fight Fedor and Sylvia, and that is only to see Sylvia get worked hard by Fedor.

Rizzo is no longer top of the game, his match up would have been great 6 years ago, not now.

Their depth is a deck of cards, no substance to it, and Affliction does not have any long term rights to Fedor, so after this card he may never fight for them again. Same with Barnett. The cost of the venue, and unsecured fighters, make this one company that is at risk to be a fly by night corporation.

Some very good points RangerLee,

Things could just as easily go wrong as they could go right for Affliction.  They are jumping in with both feet that is definitely true.

They are putting this card on in 20,000 seat arena, thy have no generally well known fighter to non hard core MMA fans in America.

But let me deal with some of your concerns from the Affliction side of it.

Andre Arloski:  there is nothing definite about where Arvloski will end up next.   The Affliction representative who was part of the panel last Friday on InsideMMA, did not shoot down the rumors of Arvloski when asked about them by co-host Kenny Rice.  But rather says they are in negotiations (which is just as much as any UFC connection at this point.  Also there suggestion was made and concurred with that Arvloski vs Rothwell would be a good fight.  So what I am saying is there is as much pointing to Affliction as there is to the UFC and that is more than can be said about any other company at present.

Also I believe Arvloski is a major key to this particular card because he is as well known in America as any of these other fighters.

Fedor:  you mention long term rights to Fedor:  I believe Fedor wants to fight the best competition out there but did not want to be restricted by the UFC.  Affliction has a long standing relationship with Randy Couture and the publicity shots from a few months back were for Affliction.  Commonly accepted in MMA circles is that of the potential opponents out there currently for Fedor that Josh Barnett is top one.  Also the potential winner of a possible matchup with Arvloski and Rothwell is a legitimate contender.  This is also a great way to get Fedor more recognized to the American public.

Costs:  obviously this is a major financial undertaking for the company but the cross promotion with the clothing line is a benefit, and it is a basic principal to make money you need to spend money.  I believe the decision to have this card at The Honda Center in Anaheim is a good one because Orange County is as much a MMA hot bed as anywhere in the country.  If they are gonna fill an arena that size there isn't anywhere better to hold this card in my opinion.

It will definitely be interesting to see how this all plays out.
