I am a Cubs fan ( I know, 100 years and counting).  Why did the Blue Jays get rid of Reed Johnson?  From an outsider looking in I was suprised when they did that.   His average has dipped in the past couple of weeks but we have loved him here so far in Chicago.  I bet you guys would like him back now with Wells going down.

Well, I can only guess that J.P. Riccardi felt he wouldn't get back to his 2006 form. I miss his scrappy play, but I think it was time for a change of scenery for Reed. We also had signed Shannon Stewart and no one could've expected him to suck as much as he did (well, maybe the odd few).

Ya I am pretty sure I can speak for the majority of Jays fans when I say we miss Reed.  He is an all out player who gives it all every game.  I dont think Reed was ever a lead off man, however;  which is why we were happy to get Eckstein.   We were told coming into the season that they would be platooning Reed and Stairs, and  that was fine.

One can only speculate into the release of Johnson and Thomas.  Gibby does have a history of shipping out players who call him out publicly or in the clubhouse.  But really, at this point how safe is Gibby's job or JP for that matter??

It was money.  He went to arbitration, was awarded 3 mil and change and JP felt that was too much for someone coming off of a back injury.... So I think he paid him about a mil to leave, after signing Stewart for 1.5 mil, and now Wilkerson and Mench.... Wait... How could JP have saved money on this one?....

Since Reed has left, JP has shown no love for Stewart who was supposed to give more offensive upside... (.220 AVG, 0 HR)... Way to go... every time Stewart has looked like he was going to take over the staring job JP calls someone up or signs someone to squeeze Stewart out of the starting spot.

I think JP is trying a bit too hard to become David Blaine and make his entire team dissappear (not that that would be hard to do with the offense).

But no one wanted Reed out.  That is the short answer.  I posted that on the Cubs board a few times a while ago when the Reed-Pie arguements were flying.
