3 1/2 weeks until the June draft.  Baseball America has put together a projected draft. They have the following players getting drafted at the current Mets picks.

  • #18 -  Gerrit Cole RHP Lutheran HS, Orange, Calif.

Pre-Season rank 11, Top 50 rank 50

With an arm as good as any in the draft, Cole still has managed to see his stock fall due to concerns about his delivery, mound presence and secondary pitches.

Pre-Season rank NR, Top 50 rank 29

A grinder and a premium hitter, Gillaspie has built on his strong summer, when he was MVP of the Cape Cod League.

named the Pacific-10 Conference Baseball Player of the Week in Feb.

I would personally like to see them take the 2nd basemen Jemile Weeks (rickies brother) out of Miami with one of those picks. Seems to be a speedy, high average hitter and should be able to replace Luis Castillo when his contract expires or even before that.

Yo Tartans, Good information. I thought the Mets usually didn't take kids straight out of high school.

It's hard to get excited about of these players - it's so hard to accurately project how any of these guys will do...

I am not big on the draft, however I prefer taking HS pitchers then college pitchers.  I would rather teach them how to pitch at 18 then 21.  A lot of college pitchers do not know how to throw inside.

You're right they havn't over the last few years. I would doubt if the Mets drafted any of the players I posted above.

I think they'll must likely go with 3 pitchers with their first 3 picks.
