What a hoot. I just heard a live interview "from the road" of an Oklahoma player that just called it quits. Funny thing is, he originally committed to play for Michigan State.
The highly regarded player is none other than 3rd string quartrback Keith Nichol. He committed to play for John L. Smith. When he got the boot and new coach Dantonio came aboard, Nichol said no way, and bolted for Oklahoma. It looks like he rode the pine, and threw a beautiful 98-yard interception during his playing minutes there in Oklahoma under Bob Stoops.
He is heading back to Michigan, fully intending to play football, as quarterback, for a division-I school. Being interviewed live on the road, he was asked how many coaches had been calling his home in the 5 hours since his announcement had been made. He evaded answering outright. Smart move. At this point of time, it would make sense that the schools who originally recruited him and thus have ties and some connections with him and his family may be the ones that would have this on their radar. That would be Cincinnati and Michigan State.
Any thoughts on Keith Nichol? I guess you can say he made a "tough decision" in leaving, seeing that he was playing behind the national freshman player of the year at quarterback and would be for the next 3 years or so. Does he have any skills to start anywhere? Or simply the starter at Lowell high school in Michigan?
