From the little I've seen of Hamga, and more so of what I've heard, I would expect 10 points, 10 rebounds, and maybe average 3-4 blocks a game. If I remember right, I think I read somewhere a while back that he averaged almost 10 blocks a game his final year?? I know that was against high school kids, but in the same article, his coach said the talent of his competition was at a level of mostly division 1 prospects.

I think his last year of prep he averaged 13, 12, and 7 blocks. That is still a sick number of blocks!
I remember his coach coming onto ESPN radio the day he committed and saying that we just landed the best shot blocker out there...regardless of class.
While I don't think offensive production will be needed, I do expect BIG contributions rebounding and defensively. I say he averages 8pts, 9rebs, and 3.5 blocks per game! I know that 9 reb/game doesn't look enormous, but that would have led the conference this year. He will be right up there with Neville and Gay-sted for league lead in rebounds.

thanks for joining in, KC!
I think the excitement level about Hanga is that "the sky's the limit", no height pun intended. The word is that he did work very hard during last season and has a strong desire to better himself. With an attitiude like that and his athletic ability, you can't ask for much more. I think we'll be able to see him grow and improve week by week.
Maybe we'll get to see a quadruple double, with 12 points, 12 rebounds, 10 blocks and 10 assists by kicking out to Wink, Willis and Joe. Thats the kind of crazy thinking a player like this generates, and its sure fun to speculate. On second thought, I hope he doesn't pull something like that until his 3rd year, because if he does it, he's a lottery pick. lol !

I remember the first pic I ever saw of Hamga, he was standing flat footed holding the rim!! That was a glorious sight to behold! The redshirt year will be a help for sure. As far as expectations, I agree with most of the thread. 8-12 ppg, 7-12 rpg, 3-6 bpg. He easily could be new comer of the year and defensive player of the year. Hamga is by far the biggest big man we've ever had (Gilliam, Larry Johnson, Kambala, Joel Anthony, Amundson, Scurry, or George Ackles never surpassed 6'10) and with the exception of LJ could be the best big UNLV has ever had in its storied history.
On a side note, does anyone else see Massamba red shirting??

I don't think they'll redshirt Massamba this year. Depending on the year Hamga has, as well as any commitment Kruger can get from him to stay till his junior year, I could see Massamba redshirting his sophmore year. Just looking back the past few years at redshirt bigs, and what coach was able to do with Amundson and Anthony was tremendous.
