Suppose he was able to get a release, can he transfer to another school and be eligible  for the 2008/2009 season?  It seems that because there was a coaching change he has that option but I seem to remember that there is also a time frame to complete a petition.

From what I've read about NCAA football LOI's, they are binding and have a one-year penalty (petition or not) even if the school's coach is fired or resigns.  I imagine that it would be no different for basketball as the LOI process is governed by the same association.

That becomes an interesting decision for Morgan at that point.  UCLA will still be in good shape in '09/'10 but they'll be without Collison, Shipp, Luc and most likely Holiday.

NCAA rule in basketball is slightly different. If LSU granted the release, then J'mison Morgan can play for us this upcoming season. Otherwise, he must sit for a year.

Trent Johnson has shown us his "sour grapes" attitude at the end of the season when we got the "call" at the end of the regulation. He may withhold J'mison's release just to shove his thumb to us. We're hoping that' he's not. But J'mison's brother thinks Trent will grant the release.

Firstly, Trent Johnson has absolutely no say of whether Morgan can be released or not. That is up to the administration.

Secondly, I can't get too excited about a player who says he is coming to UCLA for "better exposure." Just what we need, another one-and-done to accompany Holiday in the post-season exodus to the NBA. Nevertheless, I know he will be a usefule asset for ONE year at least, so I guess we should take what we can get.
