Big 12 votes no to playoff, but even bigger doesnt support the concept of a plus one  which would have put a BCS game in Big 12 territory. Hmmm, that doesnt appear to make sense to me for the Big 12. Chance to finally have a Big 12 regional BCS game and vote against it? I can see why the Pac10 voted against, they have two regional BCS games already (Rose and Fiesta). Big 10 is so ignorantly tradition based which explains their vote. Big East commissioner showed how ignorant he is with his "the fans didnt build this.." comment. Man, 2013 before we have a shot at a playoff.

I think there all just flat scared of a play off. I can't see where they would lose any money if they put it together right.

Having a 16 team playoff with bigtime advertising and TV rights would create 15 BCS caliber games compared to the current setup of 5 games. I cant see how they could lose.

They could still have the lower level bowls for the non-playoff teams. How do they lose?

Sometimes i think there doing this  just  so the elite programs can be the only ones to win the N.C.

Its like someone said, with the playoff you will generate more BCS caliber games and there for you will generate more money. There just making up excuses.

The thing with a playoff is, that while it MAY give you a shot at a NC it is far more likely to DENY you one.   It is far more simple to put it all on a single shot, one that you typically have 4-6 weeks to prepare for than it is to have two or more high caliber opponents back to back.  Also, these are games played AWAY from your home (unless you are LSU or USC) and not like the lower divisions or NFL where record is reflected in home field advantage.  The power conferences do NOT want to give a Boise or Fresno a shot at pulling off a miracle run similar to what the Steelers did in XL, coming in as a wild card and beating three teams on the road to win the Superbowl.   That type of occurrence would cost the Powers That Be a lot of money and prestige.   These PTB's at the conference level and the University Presidents are NOT going to allow that to happen until they are absolutely FORCED to do so.

Wiz, you bring up some valid points and I do agree with most of your posts although I feel differently about the playoff issue.

Yes, it would give teams like Boise a chance to win it all but I think that is the beauty of it all.  If, A BIG IF, a team like Boise could make a run through 2 or 3 good teams then they probably deserve to win it all, that is the point behind the playoff system.

More importantly, there is more parity in college football now than ever so a playoff structure would allow the best 8, 16, or however many teams to compete for the trophy.  As it stands now 2 of the teams get that chance while, usually, 5 or 6 other teams that are equally as good stand on the sidelines watching the BCS game.

Bring on a playoff system.  Please.

SoonersWin,  I was in no way advocating that there should NOT be a playoff system.  I was attempting to express the reasons why I don't think it will happen in the immediate future.  That mindset has a mass and gravity of its own.   A change to a playoff will not occur until there is an overwhelming force of public opinion, media dollars, etc. that can be brought to bear on these solidly entrenched University Presidents and conference suits.    Other than the fact that the Sooners were on the wrong end of the Boise game, I really liked their story.  I also have an admiration for the Fresno State program because they will literally play anyone, anywhere.  Too bad a number of the big boys won't do that.  Its like you said, it is a GOOD thing when a team like that stirs up the pot with a fantastic season.   The excitement it generates is incredible.   Just look at the human interest of when the 2000 Sooners came out of NOWHERE to take the NC.  It was something SPECIAL.   Yes a playoff would be GOOD for college football, but it would be bad for TPTB.   That is why it is at minimum 7-8 years off.   But when people have had enough......

Viva la revolution!

You guys are forgetting the money. Who wants to see the Anaheim Parade or the South Miami Orange Festival. These guys are getting money from sponsors for naming their stadiums and everything else they can come up with, including the parades. Why would they trade that for 1 or 2 games in a playoff? Tv revenue, come on they already get that and MORE. Much more. Besides the Big 10 shares the money with the Pac 10 and its always more than any other bowl. I would love to see a playoff, but I don't see how it can happen. Show them the money.
