Both Pat Cowan and Ben Olson won't be participating on the final Spring scrimmage at Rose Bowl. Pat Cowan could be out of the entire season when MRI revealed that he has damage ACL on his left knee. The same left knee he had surgery last February. Wanting to be a starter, I think Pat Cowan came back too soon after the surgery which lead to this injury.

Meanwhile, Ben Olson suffered a fracture to his "fifth metatarsal fracture" which is the bone that runs from the midfoot to the base of small toe. This type of injury is actually quite common. Both QBs got injured during non-contract drills. It's like an omen that these 2 guys are not meant to be our QBs.

Tomorrow, we'll see what Kevin Craft and Chris Forcier can do. Kevin Craft has had games experience while he was at San Diego State. Probably, he'll show more maturity than Chris Forcier. Unless either Cowan or Olson can come back by Summer training camp, we should start preparing Craft or Forcier for 2008 season. Who knows, perhaps Nick Crissman can be on the mix also.

its too bad about cowan and olson but, the way i see it is out with the old and in with the new. we all know that cowan isnt a very good qb, and olson was supposed to be very good and just hasnt shown up. so lets go in another direction, the future. give craft and forcier and crissman a chance to run the show and prove themselves. id rather lose with a young qb who is progressing, than lose with an upperclassmen who is at his ceiling and isnt going to get any better. Craft will probably end up being the week 1 starter. I think RN needs to make a decision in the next few days and stick with his guy. we cant have a situation like last year where no one knew who the qb was. we need a leader.

just heard about the qb's going down. that really sucks. as much as i hate you guys, i never want to see injuries happen.  the above post makes the most sense.  CRN may as well give the keys to a young buck and let him gain experience and take his bumps along the way.  how many years does cowan and olson have left? isnt olson about 25? it doesnt look like he'll be able to recover physically from his 2 yr mission.  best of luck in that regard.

his airness, if i ever ran into at a bar or a game, we'd probably have an all out brawl.  your avatar tells me that you're a 49er fan too. tsk, tsk.  well i'm a cowboy fan.  i guess we disagree on all fronts.

maybe, im pretty calm on all that kinda stuff until people start running their mouths. im not much of a trash talker, but if someone starts running their mouth to me then i get pretty upset. i dont like the cowboys, but i have a lot of respect for the organization and its 5 superbowls. the raiders are the team that i really hate.

The buzz at the Rose bowl last night was all about the QB situation.  Of the 15,000 that showed up most seemd set to see what our 3rd and 4th string QB's could do.

Craft completed 11 of 24 for 95 yards, one interception and one touchdown with the first offense. UCLA's fourth-string quarterback, Chris Forcier, was 4of6 for 52 yards and an interception and fifth-string Osaar Rasshan completed 4of 7 for 60 yards and a touchdown.   11 different receivers caught passes.  Both TE's Paulson and Moya had receptions and with our QB situaton I'm sure we will see a lot more of our TE's in Norm Chows offense.    They are saying that Oslon's surgery will have him out 6 to 8 weeks and about the same amount of thime for rehab.  That would put him on track to be back for the start of the season vs. the Volenteers.

I agree with His Airness, give our young QB's the ball and have Ben hold the clipboard.  I would like to see Crissman be able to red shirt and then recruit another QB for 2009.  I've often mentioned that during the 80's Terry Donahue had success due to the fact that he always had depth at QB.  There was a span of four years that the Bruins had a  starting senior QB.  The injury to OLB John Hale is another worry for our defense.  Hale did not play last night and will have surgery this week.   The defense looked good last night but they were palying our offense.

Kevin Craft could be our starter by opening day. He still needs to adjust to drop pass instead from the gun. Unlike Jay Norvell who hardly called a play for TE, Norm Chow will use our TE on pass play. It's great that Ryan Moya is back. Last night, I saw a great improvement on Christian Ramirez. With Raymond Carter and Kahlil Bell due to be back for Summer training camp in addition with Knox, Dean, and Franklin, there will be competitions for playing time.

I would like to see Crissman be able to red shirt and then recruit another QB for 2009.Kevin Prince who already committed and will attend in January of 2009 is our class of 2009 recruit.

I'm not sure we can count on any recruit who is planing on going on his Morman Mission.  The Ben Olsen experience has taught me to never again bitch about BYU and their 21 year old freshman.  Perhaps we can get Max Hall to transfer and send Prince to BYU.

Ramirez  did look good last night but I doubt that he will get many chances to play RB.  I know the coaching staff likes Ramirez and they want to find a place for him on the field but it many be on defense.  I think he  played safety  in HS.  Can he return punts?  Bruin great Lupe Sanchez was a great safety and and great punt returner.

The Ben Olsen experience has taught me to never again bitch about BYU and their 21 year old freshman.  Perhaps we can get Max Hall to transfer and send Prince to BYU.  You may not have to relive that experience. According to Brian Dohn, Coach Neuheisel and Norm Chow asked Kevin Prince to attend this summer instead of January 2009. I thought since the beginning it was about his knee surgery that kept him off to attend this fall. I know he was contemplating about going on the Mission. But having to consider going to U-Dub instead of BYU, makes you wonder whether he would follow it through about the Mission seriously. He is mobile and have a quick release which will help given our OL situation.

If Milton Knox cannot crack the depth chart as our tailback this summer, most likely he will returning punts or kick off for us. He's very similar to Mo Drew-Jones and he's just too talented to be kept on the sideline or redshirt.

BYU is used to having these guys come back completely out of shape.  They know at what speed they can bring these guys along and how to get them back into playing shape.  After two years of no football and no working out, it's almost like they're coming back from an injury and you need to rehab them.  Once they are rehabbed, I think there is an advantage of the mental maturity and physical growth two years gives a 19 yo.

Perhaps we can get Max Hall to transfer and send Prince to BYU.

That's funny.  So, you get BYU to do the rehab, and then you guys swoop in and reap the rewards.  Personally, I think it's a risk to recruit the guys who are firm about a mission.  A lot of them come back wanting the buzz of their mission to continue, and think that can happen at BYU.  Or, and there is a whole ton of truth to this stereo type, they come back marriage hungry and know that their odds of finding an LDS girl greatly increase at BYU.

I think Cowan and olson being out is a good thing in the long run. With a new staff we need to start over on offense. Both have showed they can not move the ball consistently. And both have had ample chances. Lets see what Crissman or Forcier can do. Or even Craft.

I myself have had enough of the Cowan and Olson years, it brings back to many bad memory's of Dorrell.
