I have now seen Edmonds play a few games in center and so far it doesn't look good.  I know he used to win Gold Gloves but that was in the past.  He just doesn't have the same first step he used to, and his recent years offense doesn't give me much confidence in his ability to help us.  I liked the line-up much better with Hairston in Center and McAnulty in Left.  I have a feeling by seasons end the Padres will be shopping for a Center Fielder, I just hope we don't have to give up too much for one.

Still very early in the season...maybe he can turn things around...

Yeah, every time the ball is hit to center my heart jumps. He has problems batting, he can't run therefore he has problems fielding.

I was at the Peavy vs. Penny game and Edmonds blew 2 catches.

Very disappointing.

He has lost his power at the plate and his range in center. You will see Hairston in center and Headley in left before the end of the season I'm sure. Hell, Edmonds will probably get hurt anyway so the Padres won't have to force the issue.

The Padres specialty.  A one-time outstanding player on the downside of his career.

Edmonds needs to sit. The Pads should just put Headley out in left and Hairston in CF; problem solved.

Let Edmonds stay for two more weeks.  If there isn't improvement, then the Hairston-McAnulty thing sounds real good.

Its been more than 2 weeks and he was the only man in the lineup yesterday without a hit. May better be his month or he is going to get some real heat.

Being a Cardinals fan, it's really sad to see Jimmy struggling, but it was a bad deal for you guys.  I bet Edmonds would be looking like a gold glover if he was patrolling centerfield in Colorado or Philly or something!!

Now before I say this, keep in mind Jim Edmonds and Ken Griffey Jr. are obviously no where close to each other in terms of plate skill, but when the Reds moved Griffey to RF, he was able to stay healthy and his offensive numbers picked up.  Maybe doing the same thing would be helpful for Edmonds too, thats what I was hoping we would do last year.

Even if the guy can't field the position anymore, he can definitely teach it.  Mark him down as one of the top 5 to ever field the position.
