I've been a Memphis fan my whole life, and it follows that my whole I've been waiting for Memphis to make it back to the Final Four.  After the win today, I called all my friends, talked to my dad and brother (who are both in San Antonio, lucky b*stards) and couldn't help but feel HAPPY about what the Tigers have accomplished this year.  It boggles my mind that instead of enjoying it, some of our fans are still on message boards sticking it to sportswriters that disrespected us or picked against us.  Memphis answered its critics emphatically so you don't have to go to all the trouble.  Anyone that doubts now will just look stupid.

That's why Mr. Doyel is writing a such a complimentary article, because today the Tigers put all doubts to rest.  And I would also like to say that, while there have been a lot of ridiculous critics of the Tigers this year, Gregg Doyel is not one of the main perpetrators.

... but I do happen to think Cal is more likeable than Ben Howland.  What was up with him calling us Memphis State in the postgame?  I know that was deliberate.  What a piece of ... sorry ... old habits die hard.

None of the hate matters anymore people ... we're playing for the national title Monday! w00t!

As a life-long, old-school Tiger fan who's followed them since the early 1980's, their calling us Memphis State is a compliment because that's what old-school Tiger fans still call us.  Denny Crum used to aggravate us intentionally by calling us "Memphis," and I hated to change the name because we were giving into the most evil man on earth who coached the most evil team on earth, Louisville.  If Communist red China played Louisville, I'd eat rice and cheer for the Chinese.  In the hearts of old-school, die-hard Tiger fans, we will always be the Memphis State Tigers, your 2008 National Champions!

Many excellent comments and observations in this string.  Yes!!!  As Monk says, we Tiger fans should simply relax and enjoy.  I particularly want to thank the posters who are fans of other teams for the complimentary and supportive comments.

Two or three of you identified yourselves as long time Tigers. Good for you.  Enjoy!!  Just gotta say though, seems like you guys are relative pups.  I'm "only" 53 but  thanks to the fact that my mother began taking me to MEMPHIS STATE football and basketball games when I was a pre-schooler I have seen the Tigers when they played football in Crump Stadium and B-ball in the Fieldhouse. (You hometown fans can understand what that means, ) So, I'm lovin this!!!

As I was reading down through the string of comments on how we are identified and regarded, I recalled the fact that Denny CRUMB did always refer to us as Memphis when the school's name was still Memphis State U.  I was going to bring that up but THFLYR totally beat me to the punch.  I second "flyers" comments word for word.  Good Job!!  As "flyer" points out Crum's practice of calling us Memphis was an intentional rub.  It was a subtle way of saying that "we" were not significant enough to be well known or properly recognized.  Knight and company are doing exactly the same thing when they call us Memphis State.  Who cares!!!  We've showed em all.

GO TIGERS!!!!   BEAT KANSAS!!!!

I just came home from the bar and maybe a small after party....so I am a little twisted but I must say I I have watched Memphis play several games this year and if there are still people out there that doubt their talent they are crazy.  Congrats to the fans of Memphis, you guys are good, very good.  I am obviously an OU fan and of course I wish we had a program like Memphis' but we don't so all I can do is follow the games and hope to see some great BBall.  Memphis has provided that, you guys are fun to watch.  Kansas is good and I think it will be a great game.

I just wanted to say Congrats to you guys, awesome to watch and good luck Monday.

Memphis...Memphis State...West Tennessee State Normal College...what difference does it make?...the only thing that matters it that the Tigers are 40 minutes from a national title...and not a pretend football one either...Bob Knight has won enough games to call the Tigers whatever he wants...and Ben Howland will eventually win a title at UCLA...that is if the natives in LA give him enough air to breathe...3 Final Fours in a row!...

I knew if Memphis was on at all they would win this one. UCLA has been 'stunnable' all season. No controversial calls here, they got outplayed plain and simple by a better team.

The Tigers players, fans and coach Cal have taken all the criticism and just kept rolling on. What does that say about this team and this city? We love our Tigers and it shows!! Go Tigers Go!
