Bill Bray was sent to AAA today, despite having an outstanding spring.  I thought that this would happen, simply because of Stanton and Affeldt's contracts.  Bray is much more deserving of the roster spot in my opinion, but looks like the Reds aren't willing to eat Stanton's massive contract just yet.  It'll happen, though.  I'd expect to see Bray back with the big league club in a month or so, after Stanton blows a few leads.

I wouldn't say Bray was is more deserving then Staton and Affeldt but I would rather see Bray then Stanton.  He was hurt a good portion of Spring Training and he got lit up for 3 earned runs in 2/3 an inning in his last outing.  He has to prove to stay healthy before we can count on him in the big league's bull pen.

I rather see Bray then Stanton but give it a couple of weeks then Bray will be back up in no time. I hope that Stanton does good but I have my high doubts.

1 lefty reliever (Affeldt) on the roster (12.00 ERA in ST), and 2 other 40-plus year old ones left...Stanton is a $3.5 million expense if he stays or walks, so I'm guessing they will at least give him the opportunity to pitch for his pay. Mercker-do you sign ANOTHER 40 year old after the Stanton lesson ?

Oh, by the way- Wayne Krivsky only has a one year contract.

Affleldt earned that era as a starter which justed proved again that he needs to be in the bull pen and he has had better success pitching in the bull pen this spring.  Can't argue with you that Stanton is overpaid by about 3.5 million this year.  I don't think Mercker is signed to a huge contract and I would rather see Merker in the pen then Stanton in the pen if they were paid the same amont of money.  Krivsky keeping his job after this year all depends on how well the bull pen does.

It is going to happen the only reason why they will wait till the end is because he will not  be sent down to AAA he will just be cut from the Reds organization all together.

Stanton can probably refuse assignment and therefore can become a free agent if the Reds don't want to keep him on the MLB roster. So, you

1. keep him and hope he helps
2. trade him if you can
3. send him out, which is the same as giving him his UC release, and you get nothing for his value.

Option 1 seems the way the team is going.

Stanton is kind of like buying two 1979 Ford Granadas because you could get a good deal if you bought both of them.

I don't see Bray as ever making it in the bigs.

Interesting JohnU.  Do you say that because of his injury history, or are you not convinced that he has the "stuff"?

Interesting JohnU.  Do you say that because of his injury history, or are you not convinced that he has the "stuff"?I'd say his injuries are not being fixed.
Part of this is hunch, the other part of it is I just see the guy hasn't made the leap that he could have made. He's squandered his moment. Now he is back in Lousyville. He didn't make the team and as the year goes along, he's less likely to get there.
