Former Michigan great and leader of the famous Fab-Five Chris Webber has called it quits after 15 seasons in the NBA. I'm not sure how many of you Wolverine fans like C-Webb or hate him. I'm a huge fan of Mayce Edward Christopher Webber III and can say proudly has been my favorite athlete over the past 20 years in any sport.

What great memories...over the two years the Fab Five played together at Michigan they provided some of the best memories I have to this day. Yeah that era is tarnished by the Ed Martin scandal which made Michigan remove the Fab Five era from their record books leaving no memoray of them ever playing in back to back Final Fours. That will still not make me forget the games against Duke (3 hard fought losses), Indiana ('93-'94 season two classic games), North Carolina(two great games), Michigan State (Michigan dominated the Spartans then), Ohio State (Jimmy Jackson was a bitch to stop but we did it freshmen to Final 4), UCLA (wow), Kentucky (great final 4 game), Cincinnati (Shock the World), Temple (first NCCA tournament win), Notre Dame (all fab five players start Webber #4, Rose #5, Howard #25, King #24 and Jackson #21)...

Webber was a baller one of the top 15 PF's to ever play the game...just made some bad choices in life they haunted him his entire career...but still does not take away from the talent he was...

  • 1991 National High School Player of Year
  • Freshmen All American Team 1992
  • Big 10 Freshmen of Year (first freshmen ever to lead the Big 10 in rebounding)
  • 2x All Big 10 First team
  • First Team All American 1993 sophomore
  • 1993 Wooden Award Finalist
  • 1992 and 1993 NCAA All Tournament Team
  • Scrimmaged against the original Dream Team where he held his own against Barkley and Malone...getting high praise from the Dream Team.
  • 1993 NBA #1 Overall pick by the Orlando Magic traded on draft day to Golden State Warriors
  • '93 - '94 NBA Rooke of the Year (first NBA rookie to score 1,000 points, 500 rebounds, 250 assists, 150 blocks and 75 steals plus in a season)
  • 1993-'94 NBA All Rookie First Team
  • 1994 NBA Rookie Game Co-MVP
  • 5x NBA All Star
  • First Team All NBA 2001
  • 2nd Team All NBA 3x's (1999, '02 and '03)
  • 3rd Team All NBA 2000
  • 1999 NBA Rebounding Champion (13.0)
  • 2008 ESPN poll ranked Chris Webber #11 best PF ever to play in NBA
  • 2003 Slam Magazine ranked Webber #64 best player of all time out of 75
  • 831 career games * 20.7 ppg * 9.8 rpg * 4.2 apg * 1.4 bpg * 1.4 spg *
  • 80 career playoff games * 18.7 ppg * 8.7 rpg * 3.6 apg * 1.1 spg and bpg *

Thanks for all the great memories number 4 will always live!

CWebb was a great college player.  The timeout was not soley his fault, and we could have never been that good without his playing talent.  Juwan Howard continued to improve as an NBA player where I feel Jalen Rose and CWebb were great players but not winners!  For example the Martin scandal.  They never apologized to the school and our hoops program is still suffering for it today.  Our hoops was very good pre fab five - so they did not put Mi hoops on the map (see the 1989 NCAA title).  Webber got Don Nelson fired at Golden State as CWebb was too big a baby.  Nellie is still a great coach - see last years NBA playoffs.  Webber has great numbers but clearly he was never a winner!  Jalen is no different!  They helped mess up a solid program and Michigans reputation as a school that runs it's athletics at a higher standard.  He won't be missed!

Biggest waste of talent I have ever seen.  Saw him in a high school game, and thought he was the laziest player by far.  Great talent, no brains and no heart.

Jalen Rose never got caught for anything. Chris Webber made a mistake. I agree he should have mended the fences between Michigan, the fans and himself. But don't sit here and say he wasn't a winner. What did Charles Barkley ever win??? Was he a loser also? What did Dan Marino ever win??? Was he a loser?? Not at all. Just because you don't try and weasel a championship ring like Karl Malone did and succeed doesn't mean you haven't accomplished anything. Chris Webber was a great college player and solid NBA player. Knee injuries set him back. I don't blame him or the others Taylor, Traylor or Bullock for Michigan's problems. I blame the university. They hire bad coaches and don't give them proper facilities to coach. Michigan will be just fine. Hopefully someday Webber and Michigan will be too.
