The U.S. tried to annex Canada for a long time...but could not do it. The territory is large but not much is there...some really good natural resources though (timber).
They've got a lot more resources there than timber ... coal, oil, etc.
Our unwillingness to annex Canada means two things - we're about as dumb as the chief executive of Western Union who turned down the patent to the telephone ...
and two: Canada probably won't be saddled with an imminent economic depression ... unlike ANOTHER country I know.
