I work in the Athletic Dept. of D2 California (Pa.), which had a nice long run in the D2 playoffs, and read nothing but goods things about Benedict's skills. Some people had said he could have potentially been taken as high as the second round in the draft coming into this past season, and others said that he may have been the best to ever come out of a D2 program. At 6-6 325 he had the build of an NFL lineman. My condolances go out to his family.

I was very sad to see this.  My sister attended Newberry and I kept up with the team this past year and they had an amazing turn around since this kid came to the school.  Me being a UCF guy this just hit me a little harder than a lot of people I think with 2 deaths in less than a month at schools that I have some sort of attachemtn to.  Its been a sad March.

Our prayers and thoughts are with the immediate and school famlies of both of these fine young men.  It is a hard pill to swallow.  I lost one of my high school teammates during practice back in the early 90's and it takes a lot of time to heal.

yeah we're back at school off of spring break for the first day here at newberry

of course at a school with only 900 students everybody knows everybody so most people knew him to some extent

one of my professors talked about him for a while, and they're having a memorial service on campus tommorrow

the only criticism I saw of him was that his legs were small

he would have been a solid NFL lineman
