Like I said Jazz, it's an opinion. I guess lost in all of this is that Ronny Cedeno is still with the big league club because IMO he's out of options and they don't want to lose him and not get something in return. Instead he'll rot on the bench. I'd rather have Mike Fontenot's left handed bat or Matt Murton on the bench than Cedeno, but they can send Murton to Iowa and get away with it. From what the guys have been saying about wanting speed and athleticism and versitility, it just surprises me that you'd chose Fontenot as your guy over a guy who can play more positions.

I agree with the Murton opinion, but disagree with the Fontenot opinion.  Murton has the ability to be a good hitter, but on defense he isn't as strong.  I noticed the lineup Lou is going with is really good defensively.  I just don't think Murton is going to fit in the formula Lou is building for this team (Lou idea's = Murton defensive liability).  I always like Fontenot and even though Cintron is good as well I think Fontenot is better suited for the Cubs at the moment.  Up the middle him and Theriot have great chemistry so when Lou wants a definsive lineup you can expect to see him in there.

Roster is looking good in my opinion.  Oh and I really hope they do not bat Fukudome 5th and rather see him batting second or leadoff.

Fontenot is a terrible fielder.  I don't know why they would keep him over Murton.  Murton is actually a major league calibur player.  The fact that he a right hand hitter not only has cost him the right fielder position, but now a position on the team!

I assume they are trying to trade him and get some value for him.  I mean, what the hell?

Here is my only point:

You need to set your sights higher than a truckload of "average" players who might "help" the team in a utility role. Just say "sorry, we want somebody BETTER because we want to WIN this year."

Settling for these average players who are nice to have around will give the Cubs another 87 wins, which is good enough to be called "lucky" in the "weak" NL-C. The Cubs have the cash to go out and get some power hitters who can run and steal, throw people out. They can afford somebody as good as A-Rod.

Why cling to guys like Ronny Cedeno, who just might accidentally hit. 210 this year.

The guy is a minor leaguer, tops.

I must say i agree...Its time we let these guys that cannot cut it go. How many YEARS are we going to let someone audition?  If we invested millions in a signing bonus sure, I understand....but Cedeneo cost us nothig to sign.

Ronny Cedeno had to be put on the 25 man roster.  hendry has tried to trade him but has not found a suiting partner as of yet.  however cedeno is out of options and if sent down would have to be first released and then clear waivers.  i would rather keep him around on the big league roster a while then trade himif he doesnt work out in the utility role than let him walk away for no compensation.  the Cubs did what they had to do here.   Mike Fontenot on the other hand is a question mark.  he is not out of options so could have easily been sent down.

Alex Cintron was only signed as insurance should a utility player been involved in a Brian Roberts deal.  that deal fell through so therefore cintron was no longer needed.  i dont think he blew it by any means.

I do not believe fontenot was out of options, so I was surprised by keeping fontenot over cintron.  However, I don't believe it really makes much difference.  I think a lot of people are forgetting that Fontenot was the SS on that LSU team.  So he can play the position, he had 1 bad inning, otherwise he was at least decent, which is often time all you need from a "utility"player.  3rd is a reaction position, and the Cubs have a lot of guys who can play there if needed(derosa, theriot, cedeno, a-ram).  Once Johnson was aquired, then cintron and fontenot were interchangeable.

NYN is correct about cedeno, and there is no way he would have cleared waivers.  IF they would have waived him he would have been the Orioles opening day SS. He also hit over 300 this spring, and has hit better lately, which is a good sign.  There is no question about his talent, just his ability to put it together.  IF that has happened, he could be a huge plus for this team.

The question for murton comes down to is it more valueable to have a 5th outfielder and RH pinch hitter, or to have a 12th pitcher.  Personally I think in the NL your better off with a 5th outfielder and 11 pitchers.  Especially when 1 of your bull pen pitchers is a start(lieber), who can probably go deep in a game if needed.

I do know of at least 1 team that would love to have Ronny Cedeno, that would be the Cardinals. If you have listened to Joe Buck last season you would have thought Ronny Cedeno was the next Ozzie Smith.

Two problems with a possible trade with the Cardinals: 1) They are the Cardinals 2) The Cardinals don't have much to trade with these days.
